Ministry of Transportation will install the Bailey bridge to enable vehicular passage on the Guayaquil-Machala road

The Ministry of Transport and Public Works (MTOP) will install a Bailey structure to enable vehicular traffic at kilometer 36 of the E25 road, which connects Guayaquil and Machala.

The action is taken after the temporary closure of the bridge over the Gala River, caused by a settlement in one of its abutments. This Tuesday, March 8, the head of the State portfolio, Marcelo Cabrera, indicated that the expansion to two lanes of the San Antonio road to the Tenguel intersection will also be carried out, to provide security to the users of Guayas, Azuay and Gold.

With the installation of the metallic infrastructure on the Gala River, which will begin on March 9, between the MTOP and the IntervĂas concessionaire, it is estimated that the Guayaquil-Machala highway will be enabled on April 1 to maintain connectivity on the Panamericana Sur .

Detours are enabled due to provisional closure in a section of the Naranjal-Tenguel road due to damage to the bridge over the Gala River

The Ecuadorian Traffic Commission (CTE) and the National Police will provide their support in traffic control.

The Ministry stressed that, since the settlement was presented on one of the bridge abutments, due to the flooding of the Gala River, mobility in the Naranjal-Tenguel section was closed. Light vehicles use the alternative route San Carlos-Balao-Tenguel, while heavy transport uses the San Antonio-Tenguel highway.

Cabrera pointed out that they are working with IntervĂas on the construction of a definitive bridge, a work that will be carried out within eight months. (I)
