COVID-19 cases remain low in two hospitals in Ambato

Ambato

In Ambato there is no increase in cases of COVID-19 during the first five days after the carnival holiday, indicated the director of Ambato district health, René Sanmartín.

Until Sunday (week 9), in Tungurahua there were 24,157 infected. In week 8 there were 126 new cases, that is, 18 each day; in week 9 the figure dropped to 67 new cases, an average of 9.57 per day.

In Ambato, an increase in the number of deaths and a slight decrease in COVID-19 infections are reported

Sanmartín expressed that the decrease in cases is very significant, which is also evidenced by the fact that there were no deaths in week 9. The positivity in week 8 was 24%, while in the last week it was 14%, an index which is far from the 68% that occurred on January 23, the highest number of infections in Tungurahua.

Regarding the Intensive Care Units (ICU), Sanmartín pointed out that as of Sunday, the hospital of the Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security (IESS) with three beds for patients with COVID-19 did not have any occupied, while in the General Teaching Ambato (HGDA) of the five two were used.

He commented that in terms of hospitalization in the two health houses there are 15 beds in each for patients with the virus, of which 12 were occupied in the IESS and eight in the HGDA.

The manager of the Ambato General Teaching Hospital, Andrés Jaramillo, confirmed that the trend of a low rate of patients with coronavirus has been maintained since before the holiday, that those infected are people who have not been vaccinated or who do not have the complete scheme.

He commented that in view of the current situation of the cases of the virus, care is generally provided in the 38 specializations that the hospital has, for which the 400 beds are also available.

He assured that patients who had dammed interventions are also treated in surgeries, to which he warned that it will take at least a year for them to equalize because without giving figures, he argued that it is a fairly large number that have to be attended. (I)
