Residents of the El Coral and Blessing of God neighborhoods, in the south of Esmeraldas, protested for basic works and security.
Burning tires and wood, some 60 people closed a section of the E15 Sur Esmeraldas-Atacames highway, at 07:00 this Monday, March 7.

“About 400 meters of the entrance street have been destroyed, and urban buses and private cars suffer mechanical damage,” complained José Ortiz, one of the community leaders.
Some 260 families live in the El Coral citadel, who were relocated from the 20 de Noviembre neighborhoods and the banks of the Esmeraldas River, affected by past winters.
Resident Joselyn Sacoto indicated that the work order has been delivered to the Municipality of Esmeraldas and other authorities.
The inhabitants also demand security and installation of a Community Police Unit (UPC) with police agents, said Emérita Bolaños, another resident.
The protest, which lasted about two hours, affected the mobility of vehicles and people between Esmeraldas and Atacames.

Officials from the Municipality and from the drinking water and sewage company Emapse attended the scene to find solutions.
Residents of the Y de las Peñas, Timbiré, Chigüe, Tachina and Atacames and Muisne have carried out similar protests, since they asked for the same thing between last October and February. (I)
