European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson addressed the director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi, asking the organization to ensure the safety of nuclear power plants in Ukraine.

She stressed that Russia should return nuclear facilities on the territory of Ukraine “under the full operational and regulatory control” of the Ukrainian authorities.

Meanwhile, Warsaw is calling for Russia to be excluded from the IAEA and the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom), which is due to the fact that the Russian Armed Forces control both the Zaporozhye and Chernobyl nuclear power plants.

“Of course, any presence of extraneous forces and people other than the personnel who daily maintain the power plant is absolutely unacceptable, and this cannot be discussed,” announced the Minister of Climate and the Environment, Anna Moscow.

“We must collect information, collect documents, in order to draw conclusions later, and also deprive Russia of membership in all these organizations,” she emphasizes.

Earlier, the IAEA reported that the radiation background at the Zaporozhye NPP was within the normal range.
