In Egyptian Sharm el-Sheikh, a Ural Airlines plane with Russian tourists on board was detained due to an application from a foreign lessor. The aircraft was supposed to fly over the territory of Cyprus.

“The lessor has applied to the Egyptian aviation authorities to stop this aircraft and Eurocontrol (European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation) is not issuing permission to overfly its zone for them to return,” a source familiar with the situation said.

Meanwhile, Ural Airlines reported that from March 5 to March 13 it will operate only export flights from Egypt, from March 14, the flight program to Egypt will be canceled at least until May 20, 2022. The exception is foreign citizens who return to their country of residence.

According to the package of sanctions imposed by the European Union against the Russian Federation because of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, the supply of foreign-made civil aircraft and spare parts to Russia is prohibited. Leasing companies are prohibited from entering into new contracts with Russian companies and must terminate existing ones within 30 days.
