The European Union has decided to grant refugees from Ukraine the right to reside in the EU for at least a year. This was announced by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, she is quoted by Interfax.

She also added that the EU will allocate the first tranche of 500 million euros to help refugees. “This week we made sure that they get the right to reside in the EU for at least a year. Refugees from Ukraine deserve our solidarity and support, as do the countries that host them,” added von der Leyen.

Earlier, the United States allowed Ukrainians in the country to stay there for 18 months as part of humanitarian assistance due to the Russian military operation in Ukraine.

Recall, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” The Russian and Ukrainian delegations have already held talks twice to resolve the situation, including the opening of humanitarian corridors. Discussions will continue. We add that in response to Russia’s actions, Western countries are imposing sanctions, the EU has also closed its airspace to Russian aircraft.
