I Ching, the Chinese oracle

I Ching, the Chinese oracle

Who has not had a crossroads in their life and has wanted the answer to their questions to “fall” from the sky? Well, this situation has always accompanied human beings, who have sought help in different ways and from there the oracles were born.

All civilizations found some way to get an answer to their doubts and concerns from the universe or the gods. In fact, the word oracle is defined as a divine answer.

The oracle of Delphi is without a doubt the most famous in history, but if there is a divination method that has gone back in time and has managed to reach our days, it is the I Ching.

The I Ching or book of mutations is the Chinese oracle and was written approximately in the year 1,200 BCHowever, the use of the Chinese oracle in a verbal way dates back to more than 3,000 years ago, where it was very common to consult the stems of yarrow in order to provide an answer to the queries of the consultants.

How does the I Ching work?

Chinese metaphysics is based on the balance of the energies of the universe, hence the concept of yin and yang.

This same concept is retaken by the I Ching that moved the yin and yang to two lines, a continuous or yang (—) and a discontinuous or yin (- -). Both lines, when mixed together, form eight trigrams (sets of three lines) and, in turn, the eight trigrams are joined in pairs, forming a total of sixty-four hexagrams.

Unlike the other oracles that have a practically infinite interpretation, the I Ching only has sixty-four options (the hexagrams) and each hexagram has a different name and interpretation.

So far the concept may seem quite complete, but when put into practice the I Ching becomes a wonderful divinatory tool loaded with wise advice and recommendations.

Now yes, let’s ask

When you consult the I Ching you can do it using several methods, the original of yarrow, the one of numerical calculations, known as plum blossom and the most common and simple one that is using three coins to which a yin and a yang side are assigned. .

But, regardless of the form of consultation, the most important thing is that you are very clear about what you are going to ask, the more concise your question, the clearer and more accurate the answer will be. It is not the same to ask how my new job is going to go? To ask: In my new job am I going to progress and will it be favorable for me and my family?

The I Ching can be very accurate if you take the time to ask properly, so when you consult it, think carefully about your words before asking the question, since it can only be asked once.

After asking the question, the hexagram is built line by line (known as yao) and its meaning is consulted.

But the reading of the I Ching is not limited to this, since in addition to consulting which was the corresponding hexagram, it must be interpreted, because if there is something that also differentiates the I Ching from the rest of the oracles, it is the wisdom with which it transmits its omens, which they also demand that we put aside the ego in order to understand the message that the universe wants to give us.

So, if you have doubts and can’t find an answer, the I Ching may be the best tool to clear your mind and calm your soul.
