Jorge Yánez said that his statements about an agreement with the Government were decontextualized.
After the viralization of a video on social networks about the alleged price increase for urban transport tickets, to 50 cents, the president of the Union of Urban Transport Operators of Quito, Jorge Yánez, noted that it was a decontextualization of their statements.
It all started with the meeting that this guild held with authorities of the Ministry of Transport and Public Works and the National Transit Agency (ANT), in which they presented their complaints about the current price of fuel.
The guild had announced the suspension of its operations from 05:00 to 09:00 last Tuesday, October 26, however, the measure was lifted by the agreement of this meeting.
In an interview with this newspaper, Yánez denied the existence of a possible agreement with the Government to increase the value of the tickets.
“At no time have I indicated that on November 15 there will be another rate, what I said was that On November 15, the ANT will put into effect the methodology of the rate system so that it is applied in the municipalities of the country ”, he explained.
In other words, the National Transit Agency will issue a methodology to be followed so that the cantonal authorities take it into account and establish the value of the fare of the tickets.
The mayor of Quito, Santiago Guarderas, denied the possibility of a rate increase. “The only authorized one is 35 cents for those companies that have met the parameters set forth in Ordinance 017-2020 ″, he said.
He also noted that The only way that there is an increase in the rate would be through the Metropolitan Council, the one that after two debates could issue a resolution. However, he assured that a proposal for a draft ordinance has not yet arrived.
Meanwhile, the mayor pointed out that the Operators authorized to collect 35 cents are identified with the branding (visual advertising) that says “dignified mobility”.
In addition, since November 1, the transport system Ecovía, Trolleybus and their feeders They will also be part of this rate increase. (I)
