The Association of Cinema Owners of the Russian Federation is afraid of losing up to 80% of its revenue due to the cancellation of world film premieres as part of the sanctions imposed against Russia, and is asking for government support.
“Unfortunately, the quantity and quality of Russian films released to the public do not allow meeting the full need of cinemas for content,” says the Association, which unites more than 700 cinemas. – In addition, the release of some Russian films for reasons unknown to us has been postponed from the next dates or completely canceled, despite the fact that these films received state support for production.
In our opinion, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Cinema Fund are obliged to develop and start implementing a program to support the distribution of domestic films in the cinemas of the country as soon as possible.”
It was previously announced that the losses of Russian film distribution in March 2022 alone could reach 5 billion rubles.
Meanwhile, some of the Russian cinemas are “redrawing” their posters in favor of domestic films, while others are reporting their closure.
