The law on sanctions for violation of the rights of citizens of the Russian Federation comes into force

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law expanding the possibilities for applying sanctions for violating the rights of Russian citizens.

The law establishes the possibility of applying sanctions measures provided for in Articles 1 and 2 of the Federal Law “On Measures of Influence on Persons Involved in Violations of Fundamental Human Rights and Freedoms, Rights and Freedoms of Citizens of the Russian Federation” to all foreign citizens and stateless persons, and not only to US citizens, as provided by the current wording of these articles.

Such measures include a ban on entry into the Russian Federation, seizure of financial and other assets on the territory of the Russian Federation, a ban on any transactions with property and investments of these citizens (persons), a ban on disposing of property located on the territory of the Russian Federation, suspension of activities on the territory of the Russian Federation located under the control of these citizens (persons), as well as the suspension of their powers in the boards of directors or other management bodies of organizations registered in the territory of the Russian Federation.
