A charter plane with Russian citizens was detained in Canada, the country’s Transport Minister Omar Alhabra said on Twitter.

According to the minister, the plane was delayed at Yellowknife Airport.

Northwest Territories Infrastructure Minister Diane Archie told reporters that on March 1, the plane flew to the village of Resolut in Nunavut (Arctic). The passengers planned to go on an expedition on an all-terrain vehicle. According to the Ministry of Transport, there were two Russians on board the plane that landed in the city of Yellowknife, RBC reports.

Canada on February 27 announced the closure of its airspace to Russian aircraft due to Russia’s actions in Ukraine.

Recall, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, European Union, Great Britain, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
