Entering houses and urbanizations to assassinate shows another dimension of violence in Guayaquil

Taking advantage of the fact that the entrance boom was raised to give way to the vehicle that was ahead, four antisocials entered the Victoria del Río urbanization in Mucho Lot in a car to assassinate two Colombian citizens, aged 32 and 19.

The first died at the time of the attack and the second, at the Abel Gilbert Pontón hospital, where he was transferred to receive care.

Neither had a criminal record, according to police records.

Committed the double murder in this sector of northern Guayaquil, the perpetrators subdued one of the urbanization guards, who was surprised by the abrupt entrance and followed them to the foreigners’ house.

They put him in the vehicle and with it they activated the pen at the security checkpoint to leave the urbanization without problems, said Captain Jonathan Núñez, head of the Orquídeas circuit, Pascuales district.

This event, which occurred at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, is one of at least a dozen criminal acts recorded on the afternoon of that day in Guayaquil.

In four of these cases, the antisocials attacked the victims inside homes.

In Mucho Lote, this Thursday morning, residents expressed their concern about the double crime. Although in the morning three uniformed men guarded the entrance to the Victoria del Río urbanization, Jonathan Lucín, owner of a nearby picador, said that there is normally an absence of police patrols.

For this reason, he and several neighbors requested that a Community Police Unit (UPC) be installed.

On 25th and S, in the Guayaquil suburb, antisocials traveling by motorcycle murdered a 24-year-old man who, according to the Police, had a criminal record.

The attack occurred in a house where the victim was with a companion, who was injured.

Residents of the area mentioned that the victim had been fleeing from two motorcyclists.

Another crime occurred in the 8 de Marzo cooperative, in Guasmo, south of the city, almost at nightfall.

The attackers entered a house and shot a man, who later died in a health home, while his companion was injured.

Most of the victims of violent deaths recorded so far this year in Guayaquil, Durán and Samborondón were between 16 and 38 years old

According to police officers, the motivation for this crime would be drug micro-trafficking.

In Socio Vivienda, in the northwest of the city, two men were also shot to death inside a house.

For Jorge Villacreses, president of the Security Chamber of Ecuador, these types of murders, which are similar to those committed by international cartels, show a lack of public policy on security and are related to drug trafficking.

With these manifestations of violence, he said, criminal organizations show that they are not afraid of the authorities.

Guayaquil, Durán and Samborondón reached 214 violent deaths in the first two months of the year; a new record in this part of the country

“The message is that they have lost their fear of authority, first; and second, that criminal organizations are gaining ground every day and acting more and more closely to what the big cartels are used to doing: hired assassins inside homes, closed citadels, where supposedly there should be some security, of tranquility,” he said. .

In his opinion, the interventions in conflictive sectors identified by the authorities must be permanent, not temporary, since this, he added, would allow order and control to be retaken.

Víctor Hugo Zárate, police commander of Zone 8 (Guayaquil, Durán and Samborondón), pointed out that the common factor of these crimes in urbanizations and homes is the micro-trafficking of narcotics.

“Now the dynamic has changed. Now (crimes) occur in the private space, directly in the homes of the victims in this case, which makes the subject of investigation a bit difficult for us. We are coordinating, the same, with the urbanizations, ”said the police chief.

And he added that to clarify these facts it is important to monitor the video surveillance cameras.

At the end of the first two months of the year, Zone 8, made up of Guayaquil, Durán and Samborondón, added 214 violent deaths, a figure that shows the upsurge in violence in these cantons.

This figure marks an increase of 144 cases compared to what was registered in the same period of the previous year (70 cases), that is, there is a triple increase in the rate of violent deaths. (I)
