Huella Neutra environmental contest aims to turn a Quito neighborhood into a zero-carbon and sustainable place

On the morning of this Friday, March 4, the Ecuadorian Sustainable Building Council (CEES) presented the Neutra Footprint project, which aims to intervene a neighborhood in Quito and turn it into a neutral and sustainable point.

The presentation of the event took place after 09:00 in the El Dorado room of the Hilton Colón hotel, in the north center of the capital.

The ecological campaign aims to implement energy efficiency strategies, water saving and other alternatives that allow the reduction of the environmental impact.

Fernando Correa, president of the CEES, said that the natural disasters have a human impact and that the effect that is being created in the environment has not been evidenced or taken consciously.

According to Correa, the 70% of constructions in Quito are informal and until 2013 this city had 600 million square meters built. However, he stressed that there are already 199 sustainable construction projects approved.

For this reason, he pointed out that it is possible to initiate a change progressively involving the private companies or groups allied to sustainable construction.

They anticipate that this invitation will have projects to intervene vulnerable neighborhoods or where people in need live so that it becomes an example to follow in other cities.
