The developer of computer games Valve has closed the main payment methods in the Steam online service for users from Russia, writes Cybersport.ru.

Now Russians can only pay for purchases on Steam using PayPal and an internal wallet. In other cases, when you try to pay, a notification appears: “Currently, purchase using the selected payment method is not possible. We apologize for any inconvenience caused”.

Valve is the creator of such games as Half-Life, Portal, Counter-Strike, Team Fortress, Dota 2, Day of Defeat, Left 4 Dead and others. Steam, an online service owned by Valve, is one of the largest video game services in the world.

Users of other gaming services experienced similar difficulties, RBC reports. In particular, the owners of the PlayStation family of consoles began to complain about the inability to purchase games using bank cards in the PS Store digital store.

Recall, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, European Union, Great Britain, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
