The creation of a no-fly zone over Ukraine could lead to a war between the United States and Russia, Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin said in an interview with NBC television.
He stressed that maintaining the no-fly zone “would require contact with Russian aircraft” and US President Joe Biden “made it clear that US troops would not fight Russia in Ukraine.”
Austin also called “dangerous” statements about the possible use of nuclear weapons and stated that “it must be avoided by all means.”
Earlier, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that a no-fly zone over Ukraine would not be established. According to him, such a decision would lead to “a direct clash with Russia.”
Recall, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, European Union, Great Britain, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
