France, Germany and Poland condemned Russia’s operation in Ukraine. The meeting was held in Łódź in the Weimar Triangle format.
It was attended by French, German and Polish Foreign Ministers Jean-Yves Le Drian, Annalena Berbock and Zbigniew Rau, according to a statement on the website of the French Foreign Ministry.
The ministers called the events in Ukraine “the most serious threat to Euro-Atlantic security in decades” and called on Moscow to end the operation in Ukraine and withdraw its troops. They also welcomed the European Union’s quick reaction by taking restrictive measures against Russia.
They also welcomed the EU’s decision to allocate 500 million euros to strengthen the Ukrainian armed forces.
The Weimar Triangle is a group for the development of cooperation between France, Germany and Poland in crisis zones, Interfax notes.
Recall, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” On February 28, negotiations between the delegations of the Russian Federation and Ukraine were held on the territory of Belarus, the Russian delegation was headed by presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky. According to the Ukrainian publication Zerkalo Nedeli, the second round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine may take place on Wednesday, March 2.
