Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is ready to hold talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. He himself stated this in an interview with the American channel CNN.
“The world already understands that it is necessary to put the president of the Russian Federation at the negotiating table while they are still ready to sit down at the negotiating table with them, and so do I,” Zelensky said.
Earlier, he also noted that a ceasefire on Ukrainian territory is necessary for negotiations with the Russian Federation.
Recall, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, European Union, Great Britain, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones. Later, the EU countries and the United States agreed to disconnect Russian banks that fell under sanctions from the international system of interbank transactions and information exchange SWIFT.
On February 28, negotiations between the delegations of the Russian Federation and Ukraine were held on the territory of Belarus, the Russian delegation was headed by presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky. According to the Ukrainian publication Zerkalo Nedeli, the second round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine may take place on Wednesday, March 2.
