Seven Russian banks will be disconnected from the SWIFT system. This was agreed by the permanent representatives of the countries of the European Union (EU), reports Bloomberg, citing sources.
The list includes banks VTB, Rossiya, Otkritie, Novikombank, Promsvyazbank, Sovcombank and VEB.RF.
Sberbank and Gazprombank were not included in the list.
Earlier, the EU announced the disconnection of Russian banks from SWIFT. It was reported that the system would decide to shut down Russian banks after it received legal instructions to do so.
Recall, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, European Union, Great Britain, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones. Later, the EU countries and the United States agreed to disconnect Russian banks that fell under sanctions from the international system of interbank transactions and information exchange SWIFT.
On February 28, negotiations between the delegations of the Russian Federation and Ukraine were held on the territory of Belarus, the Russian delegation was headed by presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky. According to the Ukrainian publication Zerkalo Nedeli, the second round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine may take place on Wednesday, March 2.
