The International Court of Justice of the United Nations will hold public hearings on the situation around Ukraine on Monday and Tuesday, March 7 and 8, the press service of the court said.

As the press service notes, the hearings will be held in a hybrid format due to the coronavirus pandemic. Some members of the court will attend oral hearings in person in the Great Hall of Justice, while others will attend remotely via video link. “Representatives of the parties to the case will participate in person or via video link,” the statement says.

Recall, the day before, the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan, said that he would send a request to the pre-trial chamber to open a full-fledged investigation into the situation in Ukraine.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.”

In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, European Union, Great Britain, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
