Canadian authorities have decided to ban Russian ships and fishing vessels from entering their ports or inland waters, the press service of the government of the country reports.
The ban will affect ships and fishing vessels “owned or registered in the Russian Federation.” The ban is due to take effect next week, after legal clearance.
It is noted that new restrictions will become part of the sanctions policy pursued by Canada’s partners in the G7 against Russia in connection with the escalation in Ukraine.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.”
In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, European Union, Great Britain, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
