The Estonian authorities do not plan to revoke the residence permit of Russian citizens legally residing in the country. This statement was made by the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic, Kristjan Jaani, writes ERR.
The minister noted that “law-abiding people have nothing to fear” and emphasized that, according to Estonian law, “only those who have violated its conditions can annul or not renew a residence permit.”
Also, the Minister of Justice Maris Lauri confirmed the information that the authorities will not change the visa regime. The representative of the Conservative People’s Party of Estonia, Jaak Valge, said that the country would not discriminate against Russians, and the Center Party noted that the country’s authorities do not equate Russian citizens with Russian politicians.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.”
In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, European Union, Great Britain, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
