Against the backdrop of events in Ukraine, foreign musicians began to refuse to perform in Russia. So, the American rock band The Killers will not take part in the Park Live festival, which is due to take place in Moscow in July, reports TMZ.
The decision is connected with the operation of Russia in Ukraine, representatives of the musicians explained.
American rocker Iggy Pop also refused to participate in Park Live.
The British rock band Franz Ferdinand also announced the cancellation of the concert in Moscow. “We love Russia. This great country inspired our group with its art and literature. <.> Despite the tragedy of the current situation, we remain optimistic and think about a peaceful day when we can return to you with our music, ”said the band members.
The American rock band Green Day will not come to Moscow either. The concert was supposed to take place on May 29. “We understand that now we are not talking about stadium rock shows, but about much more. We are sure that in the future there will be a time and a place for us to return, ”the musicians said, Pitchfork reports.
The indie band Imagine Dragons also announced the cancellation of concerts on June 5 in Moscow and June 7 in St. Petersburg.
Recall, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, European Union, Great Britain, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones. Later, the EU countries and the United States agreed to disconnect Russian banks that fell under sanctions from the international system of interbank transactions and information exchange SWIFT.
