At least four huge yachts owned by major Russian businessmen have sailed to Montenegro and the Maldives. This is evidenced by the data received by the CNBC channel from the Marine Traffic tracker.
CNBC links the movement of the courts to the fact that in recent days world leaders have imposed a wide range of sanctions against various structures of the Russian Federation, as well as against individuals. In addition, CNBC believes that the next blow from the US presidential administration will be on the property of individuals, including their profitable assets, mansions, cars and yachts. A similar list is made by France. Sanctions, among other things, involve the confiscation of property.
According to Marine Traffic, the yacht of Alekperov, the president of the Russian company Lukoil, is heading to Montenegro. She is expected to arrive there in the coming days from Barcelona. The Galactica Super Nova yacht, according to the Superyacht Fan website, has a six-meter glass-bottomed pool with a waterfall, a helipad and an elevator. According to Forbes, Alekperov’s fortune is estimated at about $25 billion.
Montenegro, which is a member of NATO and applied for EU membership in 2008, had previously said it would join the EU in sanctions against Russia.
At least three yachts belonging to other Russian billionaires are approaching the Maldives, a small state located in the Indian Ocean. For many years it has been a favorite destination for tourists from Russia. The Minister of Tourism of the Maldives said that the Russian military operation will have a serious impact on their tourism sector.
Recall, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.”
In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, European Union, Great Britain, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
