The Mexican authorities will not join the sanctions against Russia in order to maintain good relations with the Russian government. It is reported by Elsoldeorizaba with reference to the words of the country’s President Andres Manuel López Obrador.
At a press conference at the National Palace, the President of Mexico stressed that the country would not “take revenge” on the Russian authorities, as it seeks to maintain good relations with all the governments of the world. “We are not going to apply any economic measures because we want to maintain good relations with all the governments of the world and be able to negotiate with each of the conflicting parties,” he added.
As for Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky, Obrador assured that at the moment he has not approached either of them to start negotiations on a military special operation.
Obrador stressed that his government is “against incursions.” “We are in favor of humanitarian aid coming to Ukraine through the UN,” the president said, adding that Mexico cannot play a leading role in this process.
He also promised that there would be no censorship of Russian or any other media in his country, because “Mexico must defend freedom.”
Earlier, Serbia and Georgia refused to support sanctions against Russia. At the same time, the Georgian authorities announced the allocation of $320,000 for humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
