12 detained in Manabí and Guayas for links with organized crime and drug trafficking

The Police managed to arrest the suspects during 22 raids in Manta, Montecristi and Guayaquil.

At least three criminal structures were dismantled after the development of the Poseidón operation that took place at dawn on Wednesday 27 in the cities of Manta, Montecristi (Manabí) and Guayaquil, after fifteen months of investigations.

The Police managed to arrest twelve people (eleven men and one woman) during the 22 raids in the three towns.

Manuel Íñiguez, Director General of Police Investigations, It indicated that through its investigation units it carried out said operation as part of an investigation related to transnational organized crime linked to drug trafficking.

“These are crimes that are committed on land and at sea, and we are going to investigate what the ties of these people are. Two of the detainees have a criminal record, ”Íñiguez said.

The investigation allowed raids in the Cielito Lindo citadel, in Montecristi, and in the Los Esteros and Santa Marianita parishes, as well as in the Jocay, Las Cumbres and Jipijapa neighborhoods of Manta. Among those arrested is a fishing leader from the Manabi port.

As evidence, the Police confiscated documentation and cell phones that will be considered at the charge formulation hearing that will take place in the next few hours.

“They are criminal structures that are dedicated to committing a series of crimes, the important thing about this is to get them out of this illegal market and put them safely, so that there is peace in the country, which is what we need in these times,” he declared Íñiguez, at the time of indicating that the type of relationship that these detainees had or did not have with Central or North American cartels is also being investigated.
