The Ukrainian capital Kyiv is “surrounded”. This was stated by the mayor of the city Vitali Klitschko in an interview with Associated Press. The agency quoted the words of the mayor, but Klitschko himself later denied that he had said such a thing.

According to AP, Klitschko said that “all exits from the capital are blocked, the evacuation of civilians, if the city is taken by Russian units, is impossible.” According to him, quoted by the agency, “the city is on the verge of a humanitarian catastrophe: now there is electricity, water and heating in houses, but the infrastructure for the delivery of food and medicine has been destroyed.”

However, a little later, Klitschko’s press secretary rejected this information, noting that Kyiv was not surrounded. According to her, everything that AP wrote was “nonsense and manipulation,” adding that Klitschko would soon release a rebuttal statement on this matter. Klitschko himself said that his words about the encirclement of Kyiv “spread Russian Internet publications.”

Earlier it was announced that against the backdrop of a special operation of the Russian Federation, the Kiev metro goes into shelter mode, transportation is suspended.

Recall, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.”
