Russian leader Vladimir Putin held talks with Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett. This was reported by the press service of the Kremlin.

One of the main topics was the situation in Ukraine. According to the statement, “Putin informed the Israeli prime minister about the progress of the operation to protect Donbass.”

“Naftali Bennet offered Israel’s mediation services to stop hostilities,” the statement said.

Putin’s specific response to Bennett’s proposal is not in the text, but it is indicated that the Russian leader stressed that Russia is ready for negotiations in Gomel. He also chided Kyiv for inconsistency, noting that it had not seized the opportunity so far.

Earlier, the Israeli radio station REKA, citing Israeli and Ukrainian sources, reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky offered him the role of an intermediary during his last conversation with Bennett. According to the plan of the Ukrainian president, representatives of Moscow and Kyiv should meet in Jerusalem, the media noted.

Recall, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, European Union, Great Britain, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones. Also, the EU countries and the United States agreed to disconnect Russian banks that fell under sanctions from the international system of interbank transactions and information exchange SWIFT. In addition, it was decided to freeze the assets of the Bank of Russia, which will create difficulties for its use of international reserves. EU countries also pledged to take steps to limit the sale of citizenship — the so-called “golden passports” that allow wealthy Russians connected to the Russian government to become citizens of EU states and access their financial systems.
