The Cuenca carnival began with joy. The color of the comparsas took over the entire Simón Bolívar street and infected the hundreds of citizens who went to see this parade organized by Amistad Club and the Union of Journalists of Azuay (UPA).

César Banegas, president of Amistad Club, said that the objective of this meeting was to resume a tradition and carry it with joy despite the circumstances of the global context due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This goal was fulfilled and this was demonstrated, mainly, by the godfathers and godmothers chosen to carry this message of positivism.

Those chosen were María Augusta Hermida, rector of the University of Cuenca; Nicolás Muñoz, lawyer and influencer; Eduardo Segovia, a potter, and Martha Pangol, a woman who has the tradition of spiritual cleanses and who have gone viral on social networks.
