A number of children and relatives of high-ranking officials and businessmen spoke out against the war in Ukraine.
So, the daughter of the first president of Russia Boris Yeltsin, Tatyana Yumasheva, wrote on Facebook “No to war!”. Yeltsin’s granddaughter Maria Yumasheva went to a protest in London and also wrote on Instagram: “No to war.”
The daughter of the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, Elizaveta, posted the hashtag #NETVOINE on Instagram stories, but then deleted it.
The ex-wife of Dmitry Peskov and mother of Elizabeth Ekaterina Solotsinskaya wrote on Instagram: “Not a single centimeter of the annexed land is worth the life of one person. What if that one person is your child? Are you ready to sacrifice it for the sake of your ambitions? I definitely don’t…” However, Solotsinskaya promised to block everyone who “writes bad things” about her ex-husband. “He does not make decisions, but only broadcasts them. Such a job.”
The daughter of billionaire Roman Abramovich Sofia and the son of the head of Rostec Sergey Chemezov also spoke out against the war.
Early Thursday morning, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia,” adding that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.”
On the eve and on Friday, anti-war actions were held in a number of Russian cities. About 1800 people were detained.
