In Imbabura, protesters gather in three places in the province

Leaders and residents claimed to be dissatisfied with the latest government decision that involves the freezing of fuels.

Otavalo, Imbabura

Trucks with military personnel arrived in the south of Otavalo in order to avoid excesses during the day of mobilizations on Tuesday 26. About 100 protesters from various communities came to that sector to participate in protests against various government measures, such as the price of fuel, and block the Pan-American highway E-35.

The engines of five military units remained on this noon, while the uniformed men tried to disperse the protesters.

Leaders and residents claimed to be dissatisfied with the latest government decision that involves freezing the prices of diesel ($ 1.90), eco-country and extra ($ 2.55).

The same scenario was presented in Peguche and Quichinche, in the same imbabureño canton. At both sites, burning tires, tree debris, and stones obstruct mobility. In the last community there are more demands for the Government: they demand to improve rural attention in education and health.

The public force has had to use tear gas to disperse community members who tried to upset public order.

The way that communicates to Ibarra with Atuntaqui It is completely clear with little motor vehicle traffic, while in the place called El Semáforo, community members also burn tires and obstruct the circulation of cars

Andrés Flores, who arrived from Imbabuela Alto, in the south of Otavalo, said that in the afternoon more people are expected to attend and hopes that dialogue with the Government will be made viable in order to avoid episodes similar to the protests of October 2019 .

The community member said that the costs of fuels and basic necessities have become unattainable for the residents.

In Imbabura, the provincial COE was installed with the purpose of coordinating actions aimed at protecting the well-being of the population and monitoring the mobilizations.

In Carchi

Yaco Martínez, governor of Carchi, reported in ECU911 that all roads in this province are clear, with no incident that alters public order has been recorded in the six cantons.

The authority indicated that in Julio Andrade, 20 km from Tulcán, on one side of the E-35, citizens burn tires without obstructing vehicular traffic.

Darwin Carvajal, president of the United Front of Workers of Carchi, said that at 4:00 p.m. a march will take place through the streets of Tulcán with the presence of municipal unions, unions and social organizations. (I)
