During a special military operation in Ukraine, Russia may use “tactical nuclear weapons”, said British Deputy Defense Secretary James Hippie. He expressed this opinion in an interview with the Daily Telegraph, TASS reports.

In addition, he added that London would not send its troops to Ukraine.

The hippie also said that NATO would not establish a no-fly zone over Ukraine, because such a decision could lead to a direct clash between the alliance and Russia. According to him, Russian President Vladimir Putin “cannot be stopped by a bunch of NATO planes over Ukraine.” The hippie noted that in such a case, “aircraft will be drawn into dogfight and shot down, this will be the moment for the application of Article 5 of the Washington Treaty”, thus recalling the principle of collective defense of the alliance.

At the same time, he called what is happening in the country “a change in the security architecture in Europe, which will determine the next 30 years.”

Earlier on Thursday, President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed Western countries with a request to introduce a no-fly zone over Ukraine.

Early Thursday morning, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia,” adding that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.”
