The concert hall Carnegie Hall in New York has announced that conductor Valery Gergiev and soloist Denis Matsuev will not participate in concerts from Friday, February 25 to Sunday, February 27. Gergiev will be replaced by Yannick Nézet-Séguin.

According to the Slipped Disc edition, the decision could have been made under pressure from the American administration, since Gergiev and Matsuev are “close associates of Putin.” According to the journalists of the publication, now Gergiev will face a demand from his Munich employers to express his position on the Russian military operation in Ukraine.

Recall that earlier Milan’s La Scala Theater demanded that Russian conductor Valery Gergiev call for a peaceful resolution of the situation around Ukraine, otherwise threatening to remove him from performances with the Queen of Spades opera, which is on stage from March 5 to 13.

Early Thursday morning, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia,” adding that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.”
