The ISS is waiting for an uncontrolled deorbit to Europe or the United States if the sanctions affect cooperation with Russia in the field of space, said Dmitry Rogozin, CEO of Roscosmos, in his Telegram channel.

According to him, “there is also the option of dropping a 500-ton structure on India and China.” Rogozin noted that “the ISS does not fly over Russia,” and explained that the station’s orbit correction, as well as its avoidance of dangerous encounters with space debris, is carried out exclusively by the engines of Russian Progress MS cargo ships.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden announced a new package of sanctions against the Russian Federation in connection with the military operation in Ukraine. He noted that the new anti-Russian sanctions will hit the Russian aerospace industry, including the space program, in particular, if it is possible to build new spacecraft. Also, these measures should significantly affect “the possibility of modernizing the Russian military industry.”

Early Thursday morning, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia,” adding that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.”
