The United States is ready to accept refugees from Ukraine, but assumes that most of them will settle in Europe, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Thursday at a briefing for journalists.
She also added that Washington has been “discussing with European partners the issues of creating the conditions necessary for the placement of Ukrainian refugees” for some time now.
In addition, Psaki said that the United States “is in contact” with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and “provides him with all possible support”, but refused to “go deep into the details of steps in the field of security.”
Early Thursday morning, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia,” adding that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.”
