In Novosibirsk, the Ukrainian consulate refused to receive visitors. At the same time, in connection with the start of Russia’s military operation in the Donbass, they turn to the department more often, TASS reports.
“The number of appeals has increased, they personally came, they call, we reassure everyone, we support,” the agency quotes the employees of the diplomatic institution.
In the Interfax report about the closing of the consulate, the employee explains the reasons as follows: “Well, you know. Martial law. No comment”.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the launch of a special operation by the Russian armed forces in Ukraine. The Ukrainian authorities have introduced martial law throughout the country and severed diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation. At the same time, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry promised to keep consular services. According to information as of the morning of February 25, the consulates of Ukraine in St. Petersburg and Rostov-on-Don do not give a clear answer about the mode of operation, in Novosibirsk and Yekaterinburg – they worked regularly yesterday.
