After two months of investigation, the National Police, through the National Directorate of Anti-Drug Investigation, dismantled this Wednesday the 23rd a gang, classified as narco-criminal, that contaminated the containers that were going to Central America and Europe with drugs.

For this, they used the modality known as a blind hook, with which they can hide the drug in the containers, in the area of ​​the refrigeration compartments, and which is then removed only by those who know that it is going to that place.

Six raids were carried out in the province of Guayas, where eight people were arrested.

Part of these citizens would have been apprehended on January 23 when they were caught trying to introduce drugs into one of the containers, using the blind hook modality. He was carrying bananas and that load was going to Belgium, said Víctor Zárate Pérez, commander of Zone 8 of the National Police.

The detainees in this case were identified as John Byron NE (no record), Robert Alexander ME (no record), Nelson Aarón PV (no record), Andrew Steveen PJ, (no record), Rubén Jacinto LM (no record), record), Leonardo LM (no record), Jorge Miguel AT (records record for drug trafficking).

The latter, affirmed the police general, was also apprehended for the 3.7 tons of drugs that were contaminated on December 18. At that time he received substitute measures from a judge.

After being released, he again tried to contaminate a new container with 54 kilograms. That happened on January 23 of this year and there he was arrested again.

The same happened with Luis Fernando VG, who also has a history of drug trafficking, involved in the same case, Zárate said.

So far in 2022, the Ecuadorian Police have carried out 1,414 anti-drug operations nationwide. For this, 1,567 citizens were apprehended and 140 firearms, 13,585 cartridges and $87,725 were also seized.

Also, so far this year, 36.9 tons of drugs have been seized.

According to the Police, with these anti-drug operations, 354,969,753 doses of the alkaloid have been removed from the streets or from circulation at a national and international level.
