Ukraine asks Turkey to consider the possibility of closing Russia’s access to the Black Sea straits of the Bosporus and the Dardanelles.

This was announced by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Turkey Vasily Bodnar.

“I call on the Turkish administration to help Ukraine,” he wrote on Twitter. “We want sanctions to be imposed against the Russian side. We demand the arrest of Russian shares here,” Bondar added.

Earlier, Turkey condemned Russia’s recognition of the independence of the DNR and LNR. At the same time, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan acknowledged that Ankara maintains close ties with Moscow and will not abandon relations with Russia because of the Ukrainian conflict.

On the night of February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. He stressed that the plans of the Russian Federation “does not include the occupation of Ukrainian territories”, but “the Russian Federation considers it important that all the peoples of Ukraine can use the right of self-determination.”

Against the backdrop of these events, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan decided to convene a meeting of the Security Council. According to the Sabah newspaper, the meeting will assess the situation in Ukraine. The Turkish leader’s statement is expected after the summit.
