President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the Russians. A video with an appeal in Russian was published on the YouTube channel of the president’s office.
In his statement, Zelensky emphasized that he was addressing the citizens of Russia “not as a president, but as a citizen of Ukraine.” “Ukraine in your news and Ukraine in real life are two completely different countries, and their main difference is that ours is real,” he added.
“More than 2,000 km of a common border separates us from you, and your troops are stationed along it today. Your leadership approved their step forward into the territory of another country, and this step could be the beginning of a big war,” Zelensky said, adding that the Ukrainians “will not attack, but defend themselves.”
“They tell you that we are Nazis, but how can the people who gave more than 8 million lives for the victory over Nazism support Nazism,” Zelensky said. He stressed that Russians and Ukrainians are different, but this is no reason to be enemies. “The people of Ukraine want peace, the authorities of Ukraine want peace, they want and do, do everything they can,” Zelensky said. According to the Ukrainian leader, Kiev “does not need a war, neither cold, nor hot, nor hybrid.”
“War is a big trouble, and this trouble has a big price in every sense of the word. People are losing money, reputation, freedom, living standards, but most importantly, they are losing their loved ones, losing themselves,” the President of Ukraine said.
“Do Russians want wars? I would very much like to answer this question. But the answer is up to you,” he finished.
Recall that earlier the Verkhovna Rada approved the introduction of a state of emergency throughout the country. The decision was supported by 335 deputies with the required minimum of 226 votes.
