The Kremlin did not watch US President Joe Biden’s speech on Ukraine and sanctions against the Russian Federation, since Russian leader Vladimir Putin had a meeting at that time. This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the words of the press secretary of the head of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

“Not. Didn’t look. The president is having a working meeting,” Peskov answered a question about the speech and specified that the Kremlin would be able to speak in essence when it “looks at what is at stake.”

Meanwhile, in the aforementioned speech, Biden said that Russia, with its recent actions, launched an invasion of Ukraine, and also announced the first tranche of sanctions and stressed that these measures will be further tightened if the Russian Federation decides to escalate. Biden claims that Russia, recognizing the sovereignty of the LDNR, “cut off a big piece from Ukraine.”

The US will impose sanctions on Russian elites on Wednesday, and on VEB on Tuesday. A total of four blocks are planned, including sanctions against Nord Stream 2 and the sovereign debt of the Russian Federation. In addition, Biden stressed that the United States will strengthen its military presence in Europe to protect the Baltic countries, but do not plan to fight with the Russian Federation.

On the eve, we recall, Vladimir Putin, the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin and the head of the LPR Leonid Pasechnik signed documents on Russia’s recognition of the independence of the LPR and the DPR. The Federation Council gave its consent to the President for the use of the RF Armed Forces outside Russian territory.
