Three people were found guilty of large-scale drug trafficking in Manta. They were part of five people who were arrested on September 28, 2021, when they were found next to a truck in which more than 260 packages with cocaine inside were identified. Two of those people were released from this investigation.

The incident was reported early that day in the community of El Aromo, about 25 kilometers west of Manta, in an operation that the national police called Impacto 744.

Among those detained were Jennifer Estefanía MB, 27; Diego Armando OM, 28, and Miguel Ángel MV, 30, who were sentenced by a Criminal Guarantees Court to a prison term of 17 years and three months, after finding them guilty of the crime of trafficking in scheduled substances subject to inspection.

According to the investigations carried out by the national police, it became known – through confidential information – about the existence of a shipment of drugs that was about to be delivered to a farm. For this reason, an operation was organized in which, in addition to the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), agents from the Intervention and Rescue Group (GIR) and the Special Operations Group (GOE) participated.

“Upon arrival at the scene, they observed that a motorcycle and a truck arrived at the scene. Immediately, its occupants were arrested and the van was searched, where twenty-four jute bags were found containing 266,733 grams of cocaine, distributed in packages wrapped with tape,” detailed the report delivered by the FGE.

Against the three defendants, chemical analysis reports of the substance were presented at the trial hearing. In addition to the testimonies of the arresting police officers and the surveillance and follow-up reports, as well as the report on the location of the events and the collection of evidence, including the two vehicles found in the area where the drug was found. , which was camouflaged with sacks of corn.
