The Yabloko party condemned the decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin to recognize the independence of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DNR and LNR), considering it “a step towards bloodshed.” This is stated in the party’s statement, signed by Yabloko chairman Nikolai Rybakov.
“This decision grossly violates the Helsinki Act and a number of Russia’s international treaties. At the same time, the rejection of the principle of the inviolability of state borders in Europe is justified by controversial historical digressions, the meaning of which is the desire to restore the Russian Empire within the borders of the middle of the 19th century, ”the statement emphasizes.
They fear that “the consequence of this policy will be the suffering of people – both residents of Donbass and Russia, the international isolation of our country, the growth of large-scale economic and social problems.”
Yabloko declares “a strong protest against the recognition of the DPR and LPR, because it believes that” in the current situation, this is a step towards a sharp increase in tension, fraught with bloodshed.
Recall that on February 21, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees recognizing the independence of the republics of Donbass. He also instructed the Russian military to ensure the maintenance of peace on the territory of the DNR and LNR.
Earlier, the State Duma adopted and submitted to the Kremlin an appeal to the President of the Russian Federation with a call to recognize the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics. And on February 21, the heads of the DPR and LPR Denis Pushilin and Leonid Pasechnik turned to the Russian leader with a request to recognize the independence of the people’s republics.
Many Western leaders condemned Russia’s decision to recognize the independence of the Donbass republics, calling for these actions to be reversed and threatening harsh sanctions.
