Three violent deaths in the style of hitmen were recorded in the city of Esmeraldas in the last hours, between the afternoon and night of this Tuesday 22.
They occurred in the San Pedro, Aire Libre and Las Américas neighborhoods.
The most recent case was around 7:00 p.m. A young man was shot to death on a stairway on Panama and Batallón Montúfar streets, in the Las Américas neighborhood, west of the capital of Esmeralda.
Two strangers who arrived on a motorcycle shot the young man at that place, it was indicated. Police identified the victim as Ariel Castillo. The body of the young man was taken to the Forensic Center Zone 1, for the respective autopsy of law.
Joffre García, commander of the Esmeraldas district, said that according to the data collected from residents, the young man was meeting with three other people when the murderers arrived and shot him.
Five injured after gunfight in Rioverde canton
In the afternoon, around 2:35 p.m., in the Roberto Luis Cervantes neighborhood, south of the Esmeralda capital, a young man identified as Marco Caicedo received several bullet wounds from unknown individuals. The victim worked in a barbershop in that sector, he indicated.
Minutes later, at 2:42 p.m., another young man was shot. He was in the San Pedro neighborhood. The bullets hit him in the face. Initially, the victim was injured on the side of Eugenio Espejo street.
Still wounded, both young people were taken to the southern Esmeraldas Delfina Torres hospital, where the staff on duty in the Emergency area verified their deaths.
Wounded by bullets in another neighborhood, they are stable
In the El Arenal neighborhood, north of Esmeraldas, two young people aged 17 and 18, respectively, were injured with a firearm at around 11:00 p.m. on Monday 21.
Two brothers were murdered in the Mataje area, in San Lorenzo, on the border with Colombia
One of them had a gunshot wound to the buttock and the other, to the height of the right thigh. Both were stable.
Detonations with explosive devices near the IESS hospital
The National Police is also investigating two detonations with explosive devices that occurred in the early hours of this Tuesday the 22nd in two sectors of Esmeraldas.
The first explosion occurred on Colón and Cañar streets. And the second was in the Montúfar and Cañar Battalion, near the IESS basic hospital in Esmeraldas. That caused material damage, after 08:00 this Tuesday. (I)
