Advisor to the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs Anton Gerashchenko believes that the goal of Russian President Vladimir Putin is to destabilize Nezalezhnaya. According to the security official, yesterday’s recognition by Russia of the self-proclaimed republics of Donbass as independent is rather secondary, and the main threat to Kiev will follow.
Voiced by the Russian leader on February 21, “the decisions to recognize their separatist enclaves of the LDNR were developed and thought out years ago. It was plan B, Gerashchenko pointed out on his Facebook.
As for “Plan A”, for Putin it “was and remains a direct invasion of Ukraine,” the assistant to the minister is sure.
Gerashchenko recalled that “99% of Putin’s speech” the day before “was dedicated to Ukraine.” From the point of view of the author of the post, “this is an undisguised hint that I will not leave you, Ukrainians alone.”
The alleged attack may take place not at all in the long term, Gerashchenko warned his compatriots. “The account went on for months,” he concluded and called on Ukraine to “rally.”
Meanwhile, the parliaments of the unrecognized people’s republics at meetings in Lugansk and Donetsk approved the treaties of friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance between Russia and the LDNR.
On the eve of Putin, the Security Council of the Russian Federation gathered to discuss the issue of the sovereignty of the Donetsk and Luhansk republics, which in 2014 entered into an armed conflict with Ukraine. Following the meeting, Putin signed decrees on the recognition of the LDNR, and then instructed the Ministry of Defense to send the military to the Donbass. Footage of tanks in Donetsk appeared on the Web.
The decision led to the collapse of the ruble and the Russian stock market, and the Yabloko party called the recognition of the independence of Donbass “a step towards bloodshed.” Western countries threatened the Russian Federation with harsh sanctions.
