In St. Petersburg, the volume of drug sales increased by six times

The volume of drugs sold in the northern capital over the past two years has increased by more than six times. Alexei Tsivilev, deputy of the St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly, told this to a Rosbalt correspondent with reference to the data of the city’s anti-drug commission.

So, in 2019, 50 kg of drugs were sold every day, and last year the volume increased to 321 kg per day. The cybercriminals managed to increase the volumes after the opening of network online stores selling prohibited substances – in St. Petersburg, according to the commission, there are about 1,600 such stores. The number of bookmark points in the city exceeds 11 thousand.

“In fact, all drugs are already produced here, and the operatives note that if it is still possible to get off heroin, it is almost impossible to get off drugs. In addition, manufacturers are constantly changing formulas as they appear in legislation. The main emphasis in the fight against drugs must be made on the Internet in order to stop the distribution,” said Tsivilev.

On February 14, the working group of the Legislative Assembly on the preparation of proposals for amendments to the anti-drug legislation plans to outline the main areas of work.

“Among the proposals is to transfer the so-called drug graffiti to a criminal plane. If you write the name of an online store on the wall, you are already a link in a criminal chain. There were also ideas to lower the age of prosecution. It is also necessary to deal with the rehabilitation program: according to official data, the level of drug addiction in our society is 1-3% of the population, or almost 2 million people, ”the deputy emphasized.
