The European Union will present tonight the first part of a new package of anti-Russian sanctions.
According to Bloomberg, the European Commission is considering restrictive measures against 351 State Duma deputies and 11 Russians who proposed to recognize the republics of the DPR and LPR.
Also, sanctions against Russia may affect banks that finance activities on the territory of the LPR and DPR.
In addition, the EU wants to restrict Russia’s access to its capital markets.
At the same time, the source said that Brussels does not intend to impose sanctions with “maximum damage” – they will not be tougher than the measures taken in 2014.
Earlier, European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders said that the European Commission had developed several options for sanctions against Russia in connection with Moscow’s decision to recognize the independence of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has already taken action on Nord Stream 2 today – the certification process for the gas pipeline has been suspended.
