Residents of Rostov-on-Don hope that there will be no conflict with Ukraine and do not give in to panic. RFI reports.

The publication, citing information from its correspondent, emphasizes that despite the proximity to the Donbass, the influx of refugees is not visible here, as well as militant moods. At the same time, a state of emergency was officially declared in Rostov-on-Don, as well as in the region.

According to the publication, there are a lot of cars from the DPR in Rostov-on-Don, but this is due to the fact that in the last eight years, residents of Donbass have come here for shopping or relaxing. A survey of the local population showed that Rostovites are not subject to panic, and also believe that foreign media are whipping up alarmist sentiments.

According to one of the local residents, there is now “even less reaction in the region than in 2014.”

Earlier it was reported that the Rostov region plans to accept up to 900 thousand refugees from Donbass. Temporary accommodation centers are being prepared in nine districts and four cities.

In the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, a mass evacuation to the Russian Federation has been announced. The day before and by Saturday morning, about 10 thousand citizens arrived in the Rostov region. According to media reports, a third of them are children. In total, according to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the DPR, it is planned to evacuate 700 thousand people. Today, checkpoints operate only for exit to Russia, however, men who may be liable for military service by age are not allowed into the Russian Federation. General mobilization has been announced in the DPR and LPR.

Russian President Vladimir Putin informed French and German colleagues Emmanuel Macron and Olaf Scholz that he intends to sign a decree recognizing the self-proclaimed LPR and DPR in the near future.
