Russian President Vladimir Putin, head of the DPR Denis Pushilin and head of the LPR Leonid Pasechnik signed documents on Russia’s recognition of the independence of the LPR and the DPR. This is reported by the Kremlin website.
The parties also signed treaties of friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance, which will have to be ratified by the Federal Assembly.
Earlier, in an address to the Russians, Putin noted that the situation in the Donbass had again become critical, so he decided not only to assess what was happening, but also to inform about further steps in this direction.
Putin held an extraordinary large meeting of the Security Council, which discussed the issue of recognizing the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR.
Recall that Pushilin and Pasechnik addressed the Russian leader with a request to recognize the independence of the people’s republics. Last week, the State Duma adopted and submitted to the Kremlin an appeal to the President of the Russian Federation with a call to recognize the DPR and LPR.
In turn, the first deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Oleksandr Kornienko, stressed that the recognition of the people’s republics by the Russian Federation would lead to worse consequences for Ukraine than the recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia for Georgia in August 2008 after the military conflict with Russia.
