Russia’s recognition of the independence of the DPR and LPR will not go unanswered, according to the press service of the German government following a telephone conversation between US President Joe Biden, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron.
All three interlocutors agreed that “this unilateral step by Russia is a clear violation of the Minsk agreements,” the report says.
In addition, Australian Foreign Minister Maris Payne, in her Twitter post, called the recognition of the LPR and DPR “a violation of the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the Minsk agreements” and noted that “Australia continues to work with partners to guarantee a harsh price for Russia’s aggression.”
In turn, the Czech Foreign Ministry called Russia’s decision “a flagrant violation of the UN Charter, the Minsk agreements and the 1994 Budapest Memorandum” and called on the Russian authorities “to reconsider this step and return to the negotiating table in the interests of the security of the entire continent.”
UN Secretary General António Guterres said that Russia’s decision “is a violation of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine and is inconsistent with the principles of the UN charter,” Stefan Dujarric, spokesman for Secretary General, said in a comment.
On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees recognizing the independence of the republics of Donbass. He also instructed the Russian military to ensure the maintenance of peace on the territory of the DNR and LNR.
