The Prosecutor’s Office investigates alleged embezzlement in contracts for the purchase of medical gas and oxygen from the Infectious Diseases Hospital

The Prosecutor’s Office is carrying out an investigation of contracts for the purchase of medical gas and oxygen at the Infectology Hospital, located in the center of Guayaquil.

The center was visited on Monday 21 by personnel from the Prosecutor’s Office and the National Police.

This Monday’s diligence lasted for about an hour.

In the sanatorium offices, prosecutor César Suárez, in charge of the case, and other delegates reviewed documentation related to three agreements.

In them, an alleged case of embezzlement is investigated, with a prejudice to the State that would amount to $ 100,000.

The amounts of said contracts vary between $50,000, $55,000 and $40,000, the prosecutor commented, this Monday 21.

The Prosecutor’s Office continues the investigations to determine if there is an overpricing or any irregularity in the contractual procedure.

For now, it has not specified the number of people investigated.

The zonal coordination 8 of the Ministry of Public Health, through social networks, indicated that the facilities have been given to the Prosecutor’s Office to clarify this case that corresponds to the years 2014 and 2015.

At the end of 2020, the Prosecutor’s Office announced another investigation for alleged influence peddling in the acquisition of medical devices, disinfectant solutions, and antiseptics during the COVID-19 health emergency.

In November 2021, the Prosecutor’s Office indicated that the decision of a judge who issued a dismissal in favor of seven defendants was appealed. (I)
