Quito’s urban transport announced the suspension of the service from 05:00 to 09:00 this Tuesday, October 26

Representatives reported that it is a desperate measure given the lack of resources due to the increase in the value of fuel

Representatives of the Union of Urban Transport Operators of Quito announced the suspension of its operations from 05:00 to 09:00 from this Tuesday, October 26, 2021.

This “desperate measure” is taken before the lack of resources to supply fuel to their units due to the increase in the value of diesel decreed by President Guillermo Lasso, the leaders emphasized.

Jorge Yanez president of this union pointed out that request a work meeting “Urgent and unpostponable” with the president, to demonstrate technically and financially that they need an internal rate of return, a measure that compensates for the losses due to the last increase in the value of fuel.

He also said that they “respectfully return” the offers of exoneration in the price of tires and filters because they believe that it will not be fulfilled.

Luis Haro, President of the North Central Corridor pointed out that it is not a stoppage, but a cost readjustment, “A unit that used to put $ 40 in fuel today needs $ 75 and is already unsustainable for carriers,” he said.

He also reported that the measures will be progressive, “It could be four hours tomorrow, then the suspension can be increased, everything will be related to the adjustment in the accounts of each company,” he added.

The representatives stated that they will not close roads but only suspend the service.

Only if they are received and find a consensus will return to normal in the service, argued Mercy Manobanda, representative of the Transport Consortium in Calderón.

“We ask you to be taken care of and here we will always be standing, Mr. President,” he added.

From the transport cooperative Yaruquí, parish northeast of the capital informed this newspaper that Yes, the service will be provided as normal, there will be no standstill.

They finally reported that they do not know the leaders of transport that have reached agreements with the Government for not having been consulted. (I)
